Steamed Bao's

A Bao is a steamed Chinese bread. traditionally stuffed a variety of stuffing and fillings.

It's the fluffiest and super soft bun either stuffed like a dumpling or it a flat folded shape where the filling is visible.

Ready in 1 hr 30 minutes

Serves 6 people (12 buns)

Tips

Buns can be stored in the freezer for upto 2 weeks.

To reheat: Place frozen buns in a plate at equal distance and microwave with a cup filled with water for 30 seconds.

It can also be re-streamed for 1 min.

Can be served with filling of your choice.

Ingredients


  • 1½ tbsp dry yeast

  • 2½ cup maida

  • 1tbsp sugar

  • ½ cup milk

  • 1tsp salt

  • 1 egg

  • water if needed

Preparation

  1. Activate yeast in 2tbsp water and sugar (takes about 15mins)

  2. Add the rest of the ingredients and knead into a soft dough and rest in a warm place covered with a damp cloth.

  3. Once double and light knock down and shape in desired shape fold by applying oil in the fold.

  4. Proof again until double and steam for 5 to 8 mins until cooked
